12/1 - Work on Bell Ringer 1 (Q2/W4) "Kindness" quote interpretation and complete a food web for one item you gobbled up on Thanksgiving! It is time to write an ode poem! If you never turned in the manatee graphic organizers please do ASAP! 12/2 - Work on Bell Ringer 2 (Q2/W4) "Sounds" and complete a rough draft ode poem for your food item. Remember the requirements; 6 stanzas with two lines each, lyrical and full of chunky praise words! Shoot for a simile! 12/3 - 12/4 - Tomorrow we roll the dice - will your bell ringers be ready? 12/5- ------------------------------------------------------ 11/17 - This week is all about close reading with science text! Work on bell ringer #3 Humpback video clip and finish the close reading questions for the whale packet. 11/18 - Read 10 pages of your independent reading book; locate 5 vocabulary words and copy them with the sentence and page #s. Finish bell ringers 1-4 11/19 - Finish your library research! 11/20 - Tomorrow we are rolling the dice! Have those bell ringers ready! 11/21 - If you did not finish the library research on manatees and elephants, do so over the weekend so you can successfully complete the venn diagram next week. Remember it is not just about answering the questions correctly, it is also about how you go there! This is a free program that allows you to take out books to read electronically. Please bring your barcode id number and any device that would help (phone, kindle, ipad, etc..). Extra Credit - write a one page proposal explaining how you could save an endangered whale! This can be typed, handwritten and/or have illustrations. Be creative and check out these websites for research before you write your proposal: www.seaworld.com, www.worldlife.org, www.seethewild.org ---------------------------------------------------- 10/27 - Today in class we met creepy Edgar Allan Poe - tonight review your guided notes and get to know why he was the man he was! Also, finish week 8 bell ringer 1 focusing on the elements that make a scary and suspenseful tale. Make sure you have a chunky list of words for a writing assignment later in the week! 10/28- Write a chunky paragraph (8-10 sentences) on a creepy setting of your choice. Remember, you are not writing a story, just creating a an eerie setting that you could use in a future creepy tale. Use imagery (5 senses) and vivid adjectives to show me (not tell). If you did not finish today's SCOPE quiz using all three texts, please plan on staying after school this Thursday. Keep reviewing your POE notes and working on Bell Ringer #1 too! 10/29 - Today we learned about limericks and rhyme scheme patterns. Tonight you are to write a rough draft Halloween epitaph limerick about yourself. Make sure to re-read the directions on your graveyard sheet; lines 1,2 and 5 have 8 should have 8 syllables with an A rhyme while lines 3 & 4 should have 6 syllables with a B rhyme. 10/30 - Final limerick epitaph gravestone due tomorrow for TEST GRADE! Extra credit if you make a 3d or creative layout background! Have fun! I can't wait to show you which Poe character I am going dress as tomorrow for Halloween! 10/31 - NO HW UNLESS YOU OWE WORK - PLEASE CHECK PARENT PORTAL :) ---------------------------------------------------- **Due to Mrs. Keyser being out ill the last 2 days, Bell ringers 1 & 2 will BOTH be collected tomorrow (these are both quote interpretations). I hope you are reading your library book! 10/21 - Read the future poem and write 3-5 sentences summarizing the main idea and author's purpose! 10/22 - Tomorrow we will be finishing the poem activity and starting our open binder assessment regarding all three texts on "The Future!" We have been working hard on close reading, rephrasing the questions and supporting our answers with text evidence. Be ready to show your stuff! 10/23 - Find a passage in your independent reading books that reveals a conflict (man vs. man, man vs. nature, or man vs. himself). Make sure to copy those exact sentences from your book and underline the problem (don't forget the page #). We will finish our open binder assessment Monday and meet Poe on Tuesday!!!! EXTRA CREDIT - find two conflicts instead of one! --------------------------------------------------- 10/6 - Take your 5 unfamiliar vocabulary words from your independent reading book, copy the sentence directly from your book with page #. Today we cycled through bell ringers (after every 10) so if you didn't finish in class please do so tonight. Also, look over the 4 steps/strategies in understanding how to use context clues from the power point today! 10/7 - Work on bell ringer 3 and find 5 more unfamiliar words. Be a detective and tag them! 10/8 - Work on bell ringer 4 10/9 - Wear PINK tomorrow! 10/10 - ------------------------------------------------------ 9/29 - Work on bell ringer 7/Library day Wednesday to finish the rough draft persuasive essays. 9/30 - Work on bell ringer 8 10/1 - Work on bell ringer 9 10/2 - We have been working on the non fiction article "I was Homeless" for two weeks focusing on author's purpose. Tomorrow you will have an assessment with multiple choice questions and a short constructed response in which you will need to show text evidence. Get ready to show your stuff! Don't forget we are rolling the dice again - bell ringers 6-10 - be ready! 10/3 - Find 5 vocabulary words that you are unsure of in your free reading book with the page # - write them on a piece of paper! Keep reading! ------------------------------------------------- 9/22 - Do you think television has mostly a positive or negative effect on society? Use Bell Ringer #7 and today's class notes to write a 4 paragraph persuasive essay. Bring it tomorrow as we will be spending the next 2 days in the library on the computers! 9/23 - TBA 9/24 - Check your bell ringers to make sure they are done! 9/25 - None ----------------------------------------------------- 9/15 - Today in class we completed Bell Ringer #3, discussed the reading strategy "Making Connections" and practiced using this strategy with a short passage called "Up to the Mountaintop." Tonight think about one tangible way in which you are going to make this year more "awesome!" What good deed will you focus on? 9/16 - Today in class we completed Bell Ringer #4 (a musical snack) focusing on author's purpose. Keep practicing tonight HW weather worksheet! 9/17 - Work on Bell Ringers 1-6 - Friday we roll the dice and you will be handing one in - be ready! 9/18 - Pop quiz tomorrow on author's purpose???? 9/19 - Extra Credit - write a chunky paragraph describing what you will do to make this year, your community and our world more awesome!
